Noiya Clothing is continuing to organise its annual rollerblade jam at The House Skatepark, Sheffield. The event was won by Alex Burston last year who walked away with the first prize of £300 cash, closely followed by Nick Lomax in second with his £150, and Steve Swain in third winning £75. Since winning last April Alex has gone on to have a stellar year, picking up major sponsorship from Razors. We hope to have him in attendance again this year to defend his title. Rumour has it that Mike Welland might also be about to attempt to regain his title from 2009.

Once again there will be cash prizes, giveaways, food and a Noiya Clothing stall set up with the new 2011 line available exclusively at this event a month before it hits the shops. The only major difference this year is we decided to hold the Jam towards the start of the month to ensure people still have enough money to travel and to coincide with the Easter holidays.

On the day there will be 3 different jams:

1 - 15 and under -12pm start (Qualifier for AIL Youngbloods 15 and under competition @ SlammJamm XIII):
2 - Open - 2pm start:
3 - Expert/Sponsored - 4pm start

The format will be 5 people skating the park in 5 minute rounds, with the judges favourite from each round going through to the semi-finals where the top two will go through to the final.

There is a limit of 30 riders in each category, so make sure you get down early to secure your place. Park opens at 10.30am, closes at 7pm.

Supported by Kingdom Magazine, SlapTap, Loco Skates, UKSkate, The Conference (USD, Undercover, Xsjado, Kizer) Ground Control, Razors and Glaceau VitaminWater so far.

Entry will be £5 whether you are spectating, skating or entering the jam.

We have organised a massive afterparty as well in collaboration with Sheffield's biggest and best bass-music night, Subtitle. Hosted at Corporation nightclub and based in a convenient city centre location this one is set to go off!

Tes la Rok is headlining the show, with Noiya Clothing DJs and producers Crisp (soundcloud.com/crispdubsuk) and Kidnap Kid (soundcloud.com/kidnap_kid) supporting, so make sure you all stay for the weekend. Its time to hit up all those friends, relatives and associates in the Sheffield area for a place to passout. Come party afterwards and skate some of Sheffield's infamous street spots on the sunday. Its going to be a session!

Anyone who has visited this site a bit or skated with the Sheff crew before knows about Ross. His skating speaks absolute volumes about his personality. Chilled yet aggro at the same time, effortlessly steezed out yet a high attention to detail. Ross is a bit of an anomily really. There is a lot of subtlety about the way his does his tricks, which lends itself to being extremely aesthetically pleasing to watch him skate. Watch out for Ross in 2009, he's gonna be dropping some massive sections! Filmed and edited by Nottingham's Geoff Davies.

Piranny has just recently moved house, and in doing so unearthered a few forgotten DVDs with footage from our old housemate Mike Welland's camera. Most of this footage you will have seen before in various DVDs like BHC, but we got so juiced on finding this goldmine that an edit just had to be created. Pog has created an awesome SCR (Steel City Rollas) Magazine for a media project at college. The photographs, layout, and text have all been done by Pog. In this first issue we have an interview with SCR OG DC (Steel City Rollas Original Gangsta Daz Cartledge). He got a really good grade for it too, so well done mate. Its all about being able to mix business and pleasure! As to whether we will see an issue 2 is as yet undecided, we all hope Pog has enough time to do another.

The Sheffield and Nottingham crews have been tight for a long time, since back in the days of Unit1 Skatepark in Chesterfield being an equi-distant meeting spot. A lot has happened since those days, skaters have come and gone, but the friendships forged during that period have certainly survived and are as healthy as ever. For some reason when our crews get together something big always happens, and our latest venture into Sherwood Forest territory was testament to this.
The spots are Forest Fields Park and Radcliffe Skatepark. Filmed and edited by myself, with additional camera work from Joe Ryder and Daz Cartledge. Thanks Guys.

Rampworx SlammJamm X

So some of the boys from Sheffield travelled along to the SlammJamm 10 event held at Rampworx in Aintree, Liverpool. The skaters that made it were Jon Lee, Ben Lee, Nick Crookes, Dan Birch, Pog, Woody, Ross Jones and myself. We basically had a sick time at the competition, most of all Friday evenings skate session which turned into Friday night drinking session. I crumbled a little in the early Saturday morning hours, but managed to regain my composure enough to enter the Kings Own category of the competition on Saturday at 1pm. I got a call from Steve Bass of UKSKATE as i was on my way to the park to let me know they had called my name, so i basically had to get there, put my skates on and have 5 minutes warmup before i competed. Not good.

The competition format was 2 randomly selected skaters battle for 1 minute on a randomly chosen obstacle to decide who goes through to the next round. Fortunately i skated pretty well and got to the final round, but was beaten in the final by a much fitter and spritelier Rob Pruett. So congrats to Rob for winning the £500 travel expenses budget.

The best trick comp was next level. Oli Short dropped in from the rafters above the massive vert wall, and made it look easy, props for even noticing that one Oli! Steve Swain stepped it up yet again with 540 disaster Tru Acid on the driveway rail, and Fakie 720 kindgrind on the driveway box. Absolutely Nuts. Rob Pruett attempted a stall on the barrier above the vert wall to gap into a quarter pipe but couldnt quite stick it. Oli and Steve Swain ended up splitting the £1000 prize money between them.

The One competition was basically the Pro category. Once again it was 2 randomly chosen skaters in battle format. I missed the start of the competition but caught the last few rounds, just in time to see my boy Nick Lomax dominate and finish victoriously in a hotly contested final round with Sven Boekhorst. Another £3500 in Nick's pocket!

On a side note there was some serious 'tactical snaking' going on, especially by Stephane Alfano. The whole weekend was a session, but unfortunately the competition 'battle' format resulted in a some pissed off skaters. All i can say is i'm glad i wasnt judging, it was probably harder to get the judging right then it was to do some of the absurd stuff landed in the best trick comp. (okay that was a slight exaggeration)

Highlights of the weekend for me were watching Elliot smash the big rail, and Demetrious just being a beast in general. Congrats to everyone who won and skated well, we'll see you again next year.

Daz Cartledge - Truspin Master

First of all i'd like to congratulate Daz on the recent birth of his first child, Aaron Christopher Cartledge. I have enough of a problem balancing skating and everyday life as it is, yet Daz still manages with a new addition to his household, so upmost respect for that. This short but sweet edit was mostly filmed in summer 2007 and edited by himself. Daz is like the Morpheus of Sheffield rollerblading, a wise head that knows how to hold it down. since 95 bitch!

Sunday Sessions

We all have jobs to do and lives to lead, with that in mind it makes most sense to us all here in Sheffield to have a regular time and day to meet up. This has manifested itself in habitual Wednesday evening and Sunday daytime sessions. So seen as it was Sunday, we met up for a skate yesterday. Here are some Pictures and some low res vids from the day. (at the moment i dont have a proper camera but all being well that problem should be solved soon!)

The first spot of the day was the black floor rails in Atlas, as usual, to warm up and get some tricks together. After that we went to Upperthorpe park to skate these rails. It made a pleasant change not to have fireworks/rocks/potatoes thrown at us from the council flats that surround and overshadow the spot this time.

After we had sessioned Upperthorpe for a while we moved on to a concrete skatepark in Parsons Cross. It took about a minute before one of us was asked to do a backflip by some chavvy bmx kid with dirt on his face, thats the kind of place this is. Anyway on the way down the hill into the park is this rail shown below. Woody hasnt been out with us or infact even skated for about a year because of his wedding, but he still felt it was necessary to put his skills to the test and smash this beast to pieces on his first session back, starting with a solid Topsoul, then this sick Topside Acid.

Spot number 4 was High Storrs School, Daz preceded to take it apart as standard, seen here in this vid narrowly missing out on getting wet feet. We didnt stay for long and instead decided to go down the road to the Ecclesall parish church.

All in all it was a successful days skating rounded off nicely with an Elif kebab session before peeps went their seperate ways. We did end up meeting up with Pog though for a night skate at the infamous Ponds Forge blue rails, where Paul got the steezest Sweatdance i've seen for ages and Pog laid down some sick Front Nugen's. Those pics will follow shortly.

Yo! Not got much to say about this one really. Its an edit totally filmed at The House skatepark in Sheffield in winter 2006/2007. It gets fucking cold and rainy any time other then summer in Sheffield (actually even in summer to be fair) so we normally end up all sessioning the House on wednesday nights. This section is filmed and edited by the O.G. Daz Cartledge and he's done a good job too.
